Dhaka, June 11, 2026 — Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday presented a record Tk 9.38 lakh crore national budget for FY2026-27, outlining the BNP government’s vision for building a democratic, humane and inclusive economy while steering Bangladesh toward becoming a US$1 trillion economy by 2034.
Presenting his maiden budget in the 13th Parliament, the finance minister said the proposed fiscal plan focuses on restoring macroeconomic stability, accelerating investment and employment, expanding social protection, and ensuring equitable economic opportunities for all citizens.
The budget projects a GDP growth rate of 6.5 percent, an inflation target of 7.5 percent, and revenue collection of Tk 6.95 lakh crore. The overall budget deficit has been estimated at Tk 2.43 lakh crore, equivalent to 3.6 percent of GDP.
A key feature of the budget is a three-phase “3R Strategy” — Recovery and Stabilisation, Restoration, and Reconstruction for Acceleration — aimed at reviving the economy and placing it on a higher growth trajectory over the next five years.
The government has identified ten strategic priorities, including quality education and healthcare, employment generation, private-sector-led investment, social protection, energy security, infrastructure development, technological advancement, and governance reforms.
The budget places strong emphasis on human capital development, with significant increases in allocations for education and health. Healthcare spending has been raised to Tk 69,409 crore, while the government plans to gradually increase spending on both education and health to 5 percent of GDP in the coming years.
To strengthen economic resilience, the government announced measures to modernize tax administration, improve the business environment, promote digital services, and develop alternative financing channels such as corporate and municipal bonds.
Social protection programs, including the Family Card, Farmer Card, and honorarium schemes for religious institutions, will be expanded to support vulnerable groups and promote inclusive development.
Development spending has been proposed at Tk 3.16 lakh crore, with priority given to agriculture, energy security, ICT, transportation, and employment generation. The government also plans to mainstream the green economy, blue economy, creative economy, and sports economy into national development planning.
Addressing Parliament, the finance minister said the government is committed to moving away from debt-driven growth toward an economy based on production, investment, innovation, and job creation.
He concluded by calling for national unity and cooperation from all sections of society to implement the government’s reform agenda and build a prosperous Bangladesh where the benefits of economic progress are shared by all citizens.
