DHAKA, Dec 19, 2017 (BSS) - The government of Denmark will provide DKK 30 million which is equivalent to Taka 39 crore to Bangladesh for the 'Climate Adaptation and Resilience Engagement (CARE) in Bangladesh' project.
An agreement was signed today between the two countries at the NEC-2 Conference Room of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area, said a press release.
ERD Secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam and Danish Ambassador to Dhaka Mikael Hemniti Winther signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
Of the total outlay of DKK 50 million (Taka 65 crore) for the project, the government of Denmark will contribute DKK 30 million (Taka 39 crore). While, the government of Bangladesh will provide DKK 20 million (Taka 26 crore.
The project will have duration of three years from December 2017 to November 2020.
Denmark has been working in Bangladesh over the last 45 years in agriculture, water and sanitation, transport, human rights and good governance program.
The Danish government approved the project according to "The World 2030-Denmark's Strategy for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action Plan for Bangladesh".
The agreement has two components -- Climate Resilient and Rural Infrastructure Project II and Climate Resilient Water Supply and Sanitation Services -- through Strengthened Local Government Institutions.
The 1st Component will be implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). Climate resilient infrastructures including cyclone shelters, social services institutions, rural market and fish landing stations will be constructed in the coastal districts of Noakhali, Laxmipur through this component.
The 2nd Component will be implemented by HYSAWA (Hygiene, Sanitation and Water Supply) an autonomous, non-profit financial Institution.
The HYSAWA will implement climate resilient water supply and sanitation facilities infrastructures in the climate vulnerable coastal districts of Noakhali, Laxmipur and Patuakhali and this will also train the local government institutions for climate resilient issues.
ERD Additional Secretary Sultana Afroz and other high officials of the Danish Embassy were present, among others, on the occasion.
