The government has expanded its digital fuel distribution system, Fuel Pass, to include private cars as part of efforts to streamline fuel sales and enhance transparency.
According to a notice issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, private vehicles registered under the “Ka”, “Kha”, and “Ga” number plate series will be able to enroll in the system from Sunday in the initial phase. Authorities confirmed that vehicles under other registration series will be brought under the system gradually.
Under the Fuel Pass system, fuel will soon be distributed to both private cars and motorcycles at filling stations across Dhaka through a digital platform. The Energy Division has urged users to download the app or register via the designated website.
The system, introduced by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, aims to ensure discipline in fuel distribution, improve monitoring, and prevent irregularities. Once registered, each user receives a unique QR code, which must be scanned at fuel stations to receive an allocated amount of fuel.
Fuel Pass was initially launched on a trial basis at selected filling stations in Dhaka, including Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and Sonar Bangla Filling Station in Asadgate, where only limited motorcycle registration series were allowed. The pilot program was later expanded to additional petrol pumps in the capital and extended to multiple districts nationwide.
Officials say the digital system will help eliminate issues associated with manual fuel sales, such as long queues, traffic congestion, and duplicate fuel collection by the same vehicle. With centralized monitoring and real-time data tracking, the government expects a more efficient and accountable fuel distribution network.
To obtain a Fuel Pass, users must complete online registration by providing vehicle details, including registration number, chassis and engine numbers, national ID, and manufacturing year.
