30th March 2026

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said that Bangladesh is currently not facing any energy crisis, assuring Parliament that the government has taken extensive measures to maintain uninterrupted fuel and energy supply.

Speaking in the Jatiya Sangsad on March 30, she responded to a supplementary question from Mir Ahmad Binquasem, a lawmaker from Dhaka-14.

She emphasized that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the government has adopted a strategy to secure energy from multiple international sources to avoid disruptions, particularly in the context of ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Presiding over the session, Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal oversaw the discussion.

The minister noted that Bangladesh is actively working to diversify its energy import sources beyond traditional suppliers in the Middle East, while also exploring alternative supply channels to ensure long-term stability.

“There is no energy crisis in Bangladesh at the moment,” she told the House, adding that several high-level meetings have been held with relevant authorities to strengthen supply security and maintain stability in the energy sector.

She also highlighted that alongside domestic energy management, the government is taking steps to safeguard Bangladeshi citizens living abroad during the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
