The government has approved emergency diesel imports to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply amid rising global uncertainty linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The decision was taken on Thursday at a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for the current fiscal year, chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
During the meeting, the committee gave in-principle approval to two proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division aimed at maintaining a stable fuel supply in the face of ongoing geopolitical instability.
Under the approved decisions, Bangladesh will procure 100,000 metric tons of EN590 (10 PPM) diesel from AP Energy Investments Limited through direct international purchase to meet urgent demand.
In addition, the committee approved another proposal to import 200,000 metric tons of EN590 Euro-5 (10 PPM) diesel from Superstar International Group Limited using the same direct procurement method.
According to a press release from the Finance Ministry, these approvals are intended to ensure uninterrupted energy supply and maintain stability in the domestic fuel market amid evolving global conditions.
Officials said the government is taking proactive steps to secure adequate fuel supplies to meet growing national demand and support overall economic stability.
