A special government team conducted a drive today (Friday) in Patenga, Chattogram, and seized approximately 6,000 (six thousand) liters of diesel that had been illegally stored in 30 drums. Members of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Bangladesh Police jointly took part in the operation. However, no suspects were found at the scene during the drive.
According to a press release from the Energy Division, the special operation was carried out this morning at Commissioner Ghat in the Patenga area of Chattogram district, based on intelligence information and under the initiative of the district administration. The operation was led by Executive Magistrate Subrata Haldar.
The recovered fuel is currently in police custody, and a regular case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Special Powers Act, 1974.
Preliminary investigations reveal that an unscrupulous group illegally siphons off fuel during transportation from seagoing vessels and oil depots, and then supplies it to various local vendors.
The district administration has taken a strict stance to maintain discipline in the energy sector, ensure a stable fuel supply system, and prevent illegal stockpiling. All oil depots, petrol pumps, and related traders are currently under strict administrative surveillance. The Energy Division has stated that such operations against illegal activities will continue regularly.
