Dhaka, April 11, 2026 - Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has urged collective global efforts to tackle the ongoing energy crisis, warning that its impacts will persist beyond any short-term relief.
Speaking at the Indian Ocean Conference 2026 in Mauritius, he said the crisis is unlikely to be resolved quickly and could have long-term economic consequences.

“There might be a ceasefire, but the energy issue will not be resolved within weeks,” he said, adding that the effects could reverberate for years.
He warned that the situation may even exceed the impact of the 1970s oil shocks, while also highlighting a growing decline in multilateral cooperation.
Rahman stressed the need for countries to strengthen domestic resilience, noting that no nation can tackle the crisis alone.
Referring to the Indian Ocean region, he said it is facing a turbulent period, with energy disruptions posing risks to economies and societies.
India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also addressed the conference.
