Dhaka, April 8: The LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh (LOAB) has urged distributors and retailers across the country to ensure that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders are sold at the price fixed by the government.

The call comes following a letter issued by the Ministry of Commerce on April 7, 2026, which revealed that in several areas consumers are being charged higher prices than the government-approved rate for LPG cylinders.

According to the communication, LPG bottling companies are supplying cylinders at the government-determined price. However, at the consumer level, some distributors and retailers are allegedly selling cylinders at inflated rates, causing additional financial pressure on customers.

In response, the National Consumer Rights Protection Department and deputy commissioners across the country have been instructed to monitor the market and take action against those involved in overpricing. Authorities have also been directed to take strict legal measures against any violations.

The LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh said that ensuring fair pricing is particularly important at a time when global energy markets remain volatile. The association emphasized that reducing public suffering during the ongoing energy crisis is a shared responsibility of all stakeholders in the LPG supply chain.

LOAB has therefore requested all distributors and retailers engaged in LPG trading to strictly follow the government-determined pricing and cooperate with authorities to maintain discipline in the market.
