Dhaka, April 9, 2026: The Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) has launched a pilot project of a QR code-based mobile application called “Fuel Pass” to improve transparency, efficiency and discipline in the country’s fuel distribution system.
The initiative has been introduced by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), which operates under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. Initially, the app is being piloted for motorcycle owners and riders at two filling stations in Dhaka—Trust Filling Station and Sonar Bangla Filling Station.

Following the successful completion of the pilot phase, the Fuel Pass system will gradually be expanded across the country and made available for all types of vehicles.
Officials said the current manual fuel distribution system often causes delays and operational inefficiencies. Despite adequate fuel supply, long queues are frequently seen at filling stations. In some cases, individuals repeatedly queue to collect fuel beyond their actual needs, which can create an artificial shortage.
To address these challenges, the proposed digital system will bring the distribution process under full automation and real-time monitoring. The platform will also be integrated with the central database of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), enabling authorities to monitor fuel distribution more effectively.
Even citizens without smartphones will be able to register through a website and download their QR code in different formats, allowing them to print and use it when purchasing fuel.
Under the new system:
• Filling station operators will be able to digitally record and manage fuel allocations before supplying fuel to customers.
• Drivers will receive fuel by scanning their QR codes and can also check their allocated fuel quota through the system.
• A central digital dashboard will allow authorities to monitor national fuel supply and distribution in real time.
Officials believe the initiative will increase transparency in the fuel supply chain, reduce irregularities and wastage, and improve fuel management during crisis periods.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division expressed hope that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, the modern system can be implemented nationwide and play an important role in strengthening the country’s energy security
