Iran has vowed retaliation after an airstrike hit the South Pars Gas Field—the world’s largest natural gas reserve—marking a major escalation in the ongoing regional conflict.

Iranian authorities said parts of the gas field, including storage tanks and refinery sections, were damaged in the strike, reportedly carried out by Israel. Workers were evacuated and emergency teams brought a resulting fire under control.

Following the attack, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned of possible counterstrikes and issued evacuation alerts for key energy facilities across the Gulf, including sites in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Qatar strongly condemned the strike, calling it “dangerous and irresponsible,” and urged all sides to avoid targeting critical energy infrastructure.

The attack has intensified fears of disruption to global energy supplies, pushing Brent crude prices up to around $108 per barrel, reflecting growing uncertainty in international markets.
