Supply of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to the national gas grid has increased by about 30 per cent thanks to the imports from the spot market that started recently.
The supply of RLNG rose to around 700 million cubic feet per day, or mmcfd, during the last couple of days from around 540 mmcfd earlier, according to statistics of state-run Petrobangla.
Bangladesh started consuming spot LNG on September 25, taking advantage of the lower oil and natural gas prices in the global market.
The first cargo carrying 138,000 cubic metres of lean LNG reached Moheshkhali LNG terminal in Cox's Bazar recently.
Vitol Asia Pte delivered the cargo at US$3.8321 per million British Thermal Unit, or MMBTu.
Currently, the country's LNG import price under long-term deal with Qatargas and Oman Trading International, or OTI, ranges from $5.50 to $6.0 per MMBtu, said a senior RPGCL official.
