Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has signed a deal with the joint venture of Eiki Shoji Co of Japan and Sun Solar Power Plant Ltd of Bangladesh.

The state-run power entity entered into the deal recently to buy five-megawatt solar power for 20 years.

The grid-tied solar photovoltaic power plant project will be implemented at Gwainghat, some four kilometres off Sylhet's Palli Bidyut Samity-2.

Mina Masud Uzzaman, BPDB secretary, and Md Alauddin Mridha, managing director of the joint venture, inked the power-purchase agreement at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka.

Sheikh Faezul Amin, joint secretary of power division under power, energy and mineral resources ministry, and Mr Mridha inked the implementation deal.

Eiki Shoji has 95.1 per cent stake and Sun Solar a share of 4.9 per cent in the venture.

The joint venture is required to implement the solar power plant project within 12 months.
