China-Malaysia joint venture Edra Power Holdings and China General Nuclear Power Corp Ltd (CHN) proposed setting up a series of gas-fired power plants having a capacity to generate 3750MW of electricity in different parts of the country.
“Edra is the major shareholder of Haripur, Meghnaghat and NEPC power plants in Bangladesh,” DatukWira Mark Ling, president and executive director of CHN, said in a letter.
Edra has 13 power plants having a combined capacity to generate 6532MW of electricity in five countries, including Bangladesh. It has three plants here.
The company has recently started construction for a 2242MW plant in Malaysia, the official informed.
“Bangladesh is continuously developing its energy and power sectors and we are interested to develop 750MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) and 3000MW CCGT power projects here,” he said.
