Uninterrupted electricity supply is the most critical requirement for the successful development of Bangladesh’s electric vehicle (EV) sector, Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC) Chairman Mohammad Wahid Hossain said recently.
Speaking at a seminar titled “The Electric Vehicle (EV): Challenges and Prospects in Bangladesh,” jointly organized by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA), Wahid stressed the need for stronger public-private collaboration to accelerate EV adoption.
He proposed establishing a dedicated coordination cell involving all relevant government agencies to streamline policy implementation.
He also emphasized increasing the share of renewable energy in the power mix and developing a comprehensive database on EVs operating across the country to support future planning.
Industries Secretary Abdun Naser Khan said a draft national EV policy has already undergone inter-ministerial and stakeholder consultations and is expected to be finalized after incorporating recommendations.
He said the policy aims to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels while strengthening Bangladesh’s energy security.
