Bangladesh President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has sought greater Australian cooperation in energy security, LNG imports, renewable energy, investment and skilled workforce development.
The President made the request during a courtesy meeting with Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle at Bangabhaban recently, according to the President’s Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam.
He called for Australia’s support in diversifying Bangladesh’s energy sources, exploring opportunities for LNG imports from Australia and attracting investment in renewable energy, energy exploration, infrastructure and manufacturing.
The President expressed hope that the Senior Officials’ Meeting and Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) meeting scheduled for November in Canberra would help expand bilateral trade and investment.
The High Commissioner expressed Australia’s interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation and highlighted Bangladesh’s banking reforms, tax reforms, judicial independence and regulatory environment as important considerations for Australian investment.
