QatarEnergy has extended force majeure notices on liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to several Asian buyers, including Bangladesh and Pakistan, until November, as disruptions linked to the Iran conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz continue to affect exports.

According to trading sources cited by Reuters on 28 September, the extension will further constrain LNG supplies to Asian markets. Italian utility Edison, a major QatarEnergy customer, said it would not receive LNG cargoes until early December.

Qatar’s LNG exports have been severely disrupted. Reuters calculated that exports had fallen by 96% by the end of August.

Data from intelligence firm ICIS showed that Qatar shipped only 18 LNG cargoes during the first eight months of 2026, compared with 509 in the same period last year.

For Bangladesh, the extended force majeure adds uncertainty to LNG procurement and could increase pressure on gas supplies, particularly if alternative cargoes become more expensive amid tighter global market conditions.
