Adverse weather in the Bay of Bengal disrupted the transfer of imported LNG to floating terminals at Maheshkhali, causing Bangladesh’s gas supply to fall sharply recently.
Petrobangla said total gas supply fell to around 2,301 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD), comprising 1,615 MMCFD from domestic fields and 686 MMCFD of regasified LNG (RLNG), compared with 2,610 MMCFD on September 15.
The disruption occurred as rough weather hampered LNG transfer from a carrier to the floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) offshore Maheshkhali.
The two terminals have a combined regasification capacity of about 1,100 MMCFD and supply more than one-third of Bangladesh’s gas.
Petrobangla said the supply situation would return to normal once weather conditions improved.
