The death toll from a fire at a readymade garment factory in Ashulia’s Jamgara area has risen to eight, while 35 people were injured in the incident, officials said.
The fire broke out at the F&F factory of Preeti Group recently after a gas cylinder exploded while being unloaded from a covered van. Four firefighting units brought the blaze under control.
The latest victim, a vegetable vendor whose identity was not immediately known, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Firefighters faced difficulties reaching the site due to severe traffic congestion and poor road conditions amid construction of the Ashulia Elevated Expressway.
Fire Service and Civil Defence has formed a four-member committee to investigate the incident.
