The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, met with the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Abdul Awal Mintoo, today at the Forest Department office in Dhaka.

During the meeting, the two sides held productive discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental protection, forest management, and climate change mitigation. They also emphasized the importance of green development, technology exchange, pollution control, and the development of environmentally friendly infrastructure.

The environment minister highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the government to reduce air, water, and noise pollution in Bangladesh. He also sought continued support from China in promoting climate-resilient development in the country.

At the meeting, the minister outlined several development programs introduced by the current government, including family cards, farmer cards, interest-free loans of Tk 10,000 for farmers, tree plantation programs, canal excavation projects, and women’s empowerment initiatives, which will be implemented on a priority basis.

Regarding the tree plantation initiative, the minister said the government has set a target to plant 250 million saplings over the next five years, in line with its election manifesto. This program will be implemented at a rate of 50 million saplings per year.

Ambassador Yao Wen reaffirmed China’s continued commitment to supporting environmental protection and sustainable development in Bangladesh. He also expressed interest in strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two countries and implementing joint projects in environmental protection and climate action.
