Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking to deploy 10 large nuclear reactors following President Trump’s May executive orders intended to quadruple domestic production of nuclear power within the next 25 years.

Westinghouse’s interim CEO Dan Sumner said that the company is “uniquely positioned” to help meet Trump’s nuclear goal due to its approved reactor design, existing supply chain, and experience building the US’s two most recent nuclear reactors (its AP1000) in Georgia at Plant Vogtle.

Sumner added that company believes it can begin to deploy 10 large nuclear reactors by 2030. The expected price tag? At least $75 billion.

“There is active engagement with the administration, including key points of interface with the loan programs office, recognizing the importance of financing to the deployment of the model,” Sumner said in an interview.
