The generation of power in all five units of the country's lone hydel power station has been facing a problem due to the low water level in the Kaptai Lake and insufficient rainfall since February this year.

Presently, the Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant in Kaptai could operate only one unit out of five due to falling water level in the lake.

According to Kaptai Hydel power station sources, the water level of Kaptai lake was 77.30 MSL (Mean Sea Level) on Friday afternoon. But as per Rule curve of the lake, the level was supposed to remain at 93.90.

The water level of the lake has been declining alarmingly due to the drought that has been continuing in the area.

Sources said that the generation of the other four units had been suspended due to the fall in water level.
