Dhaka, Sept 17, 2026: Bangladesh and Türkiye have explored opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sectors, with potential collaboration covering solar energy, resource exploration, LNG transportation and infrastructure, and pipeline connectivity.
The issues were discussed at a meeting between Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Bangladesh Ambassador to Türkiye M. Amanul Haq at the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in Ankara, according to the Bangladesh Embassy.
The two sides discussed practical areas of cooperation in solar power, exploration and development of mineral resources, LNG transportation and related infrastructure, as well as pipeline connections between Bangladesh’s offshore and island facilities and the mainland.
During the meeting, Ambassador Haq conveyed an invitation from Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman for Minister Bayraktar to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient date.
Bayraktar accepted the invitation and expressed his intention to visit Bangladesh by the end of this year to explore further opportunities for energy cooperation.
The Turkish minister also instructed his officials to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for signing at the earliest possible opportunity.
Ambassador Haq handed over a draft MoU between Bangladesh’s Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, aimed at establishing a framework for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Deputy Chief of Mission Dr Shahanoor Alam and Commercial Counsellor Akram Hossain represented Bangladesh at the meeting. Senior officials from the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, including its Director General for International Affairs and Cooperation and Ministerial Adviser Hamit Can Ba?, also attended.
The meeting underscored the two countries’ interest in developing practical and mutually beneficial cooperation across the energy sector.
