DHAKA, October 12, 2026: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has sought Canadian cooperation in energy, including oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, renewable energy and climate financing, to strengthen Bangladesh’s energy security and expand bilateral development partnerships.

The Prime Minister made the request during a meeting with a Canadian delegation led by Secretary of State for International Development Randeep Sarai at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday, according to the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin.

During the meeting, the Canadian side expressed interest in supporting Bangladesh’s energy supply, particularly oil and LNG, as well as exploring cooperation in renewable energy.

The discussions also covered climate financing, with Sarai highlighting Canada’s plan to provide C$13 billion in global climate financing over the next five years. He said Bangladesh could benefit from the initiative. Canada also expressed interest in supporting feasibility studies for development projects in Bangladesh.

Beyond energy, the two sides discussed cooperation in health, technical and vocational education, agriculture and food security, alongside the Rohingya crisis and poverty reduction.

The Prime Minister highlighted Bangladesh’s development priorities and called for stronger cooperation with Canada across key sectors. The meeting underscored opportunities to strengthen energy security, diversify supply sources and attract climate finance and investment to support Bangladesh’s clean energy transition.
