DHAKA, October 11, 2026: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has invited Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation to expand its investment in Bangladesh’s energy and fertilizer sectors, including the possible establishment of a second Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) plant.
The Prime Minister made the invitation during a meeting with a high-level Marubeni delegation led by its President and CEO, Masayuki Omoto, at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The discussions focused on expanding bilateral business cooperation, with energy and fertilizer production identified as key areas for potential investment. The two sides explored the possibility of expanding Marubeni’s existing investment in KAFCO and establishing a second fertilizer plant in Bangladesh. Marubeni expressed interest in the proposal.
The meeting also explored investment opportunities in information technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the development of an AI-powered data center in Bangladesh within the next 12 months.
The Prime Minister highlighted the longstanding commercial relationship between Bangladesh and Marubeni and called for broader cooperation to attract investment, strengthen industrial capacity and support economic growth.
Both sides expressed optimism that the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, once implemented, would further strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.
