DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 - Bangladesh and the United States today discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including LNG, LPG, business engagement and government-to-government collaboration.
The issues came up when Eric Geelan, Political and Economic Counsellor at the US Embassy in Dhaka, called on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at the ministry. Geelan was accompanied by US Embassy Economic Officer Joseph Boski.
The two sides reviewed opportunities to expand energy cooperation, including the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize collaboration and identify priority areas of mutual interest.
Discussions also focused on encouraging greater participation of US companies in Bangladesh’s energy sector, strengthening G2G cooperation and advancing bilateral initiatives ahead of the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to the United States.
The meeting also addressed existing challenges to bilateral energy cooperation, with both sides exchanging views on a practical roadmap to enhance collaboration and support Bangladesh’s long-term energy security.
The minister reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening its energy partnership with the United States and called for follow-up meetings to advance the proposed initiatives. Senior officials of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry attended the meeting.
