Dhaka, June 8, 2026 - Bangladesh has sought Türkiye’s support in strengthening climate resilience and expanding educational opportunities for homeless street children as part of efforts to address key social and environmental challenges. Report BSS
The request was made by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam during a meeting with a delegation from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), led by Vice President Dr. Ali Ercan, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Monday.
During the discussions, the state minister highlighted the need for specialized cooperation in implementing education programs for vulnerable street children and supporting sustainable climate adaptation initiatives in regions most exposed to the impacts of climate change.
TIKA, which has been operating development and humanitarian projects in Bangladesh since 2014, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s development priorities, particularly in education, disaster management, and capacity building.
Recognizing Bangladesh’s high vulnerability to climate change, Dr. Ercan also encouraged strong Bangladeshi participation in the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP), scheduled to be hosted by Türkiye in November.
The two sides discussed opportunities to expand development cooperation and strengthen institutional partnerships between Bangladesh and Türkiye. Both expressed optimism that the visit would further deepen bilateral relations and pave the way for enhanced collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
