Production of basic chemicals in the United States is expected to strengthen its contribution to the national economy by more than $900 million in 2026, signaling a recovery in the petrochemical sector after recent declines.

According to the American Chemistry Council, output of basic chemicals is projected to grow by 1.2% this year, reversing the downward trend seen in previous years. The sector remains a key driver of the U.S. economy.

In parallel, the Texas Oil & Gas Association reported that exports of natural gas liquids (NGLs)—a critical feedstock for petrochemicals—reached around $2.7 billion per month during the first quarter of 2026, highlighting strong demand.

Industry experts point to blue hydrogen as a crucial factor in sustaining future growth. According to Fortune Business Insights, the global blue hydrogen market is expected to exceed $2.6 billion this year. Produced from natural gas through processes such as steam methane reforming (SMR) and autothermal reforming (ATR), blue hydrogen can capture up to 95% of carbon emissions, making it a relatively lower-carbon option for industrial use.

Meanwhile, Sarens continues to support the expansion of petrochemical infrastructure. The company recently completed a major logistics operation at a petrochemical plant in Nederland, Texas, transporting large components—including flares, pipe racks, and a vessel—using 30 lines of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) over a two-week period.

Sarens conducted detailed route planning to ensure smooth operations without disrupting other installation activities, completing the project efficiently and without incident.

Texas remains a hub for petrochemical production, manufacturing key products such as ethylene, propylene, benzene, and toluene. These materials are essential for a wide range of industries, including plastics, automotive, construction, and electronics.

With rising global demand and ongoing investment in cleaner technologies, the U.S. petrochemical sector is poised to play an increasingly important role in economic growth and industrial development.
