Dhaka, April 2 — Business associations across Bangladesh have decided that all shops, markets, and shopping malls will close by 8 PM nationwide as part of efforts to conserve electricity and fuel.
The decision was announced in a press release issued on Thursday by the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association.
According to the statement, the move aims to support government initiatives to save energy amid the ongoing global fuel crisis triggered by the conflict in the Middle East.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the standing committees of the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association and the Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Owners Association. Under the new directive, all retail outlets and shopping malls, including those in Dhaka and across the country, must shut operations by 8 PM.
However, essential services such as hotels, pharmacies, and kitchen markets (fresh produce markets) will remain exempt from this restriction, the statement added.
