Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo held a meeting with Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.
During the meeting, both sides discussed enhancing collaboration in environment, forestry, climate change, energy, education, and tourism.
The minister noted that Bangladesh and Nepal are both highly vulnerable to climate risks, making it essential to expand afforestation efforts and increase the use of environmentally friendly technologies in the energy sector. He also highlighted the government’s ongoing initiatives to protect the environment and promote climate-resilient development.
Ambassador Bhandari, in turn, shared Nepal’s success in forest management, noting that nearly 45 percent of the country’s land area is covered by forests. He expressed strong interest in deepening Bangladesh–Nepal cooperation to address climate change challenges and pointed to potential joint initiatives under the BIMSTEC framework.
Senior officials, including Environment Ministry Secretary Md. Raihan Kawsar and other high-ranking representatives, were also present at the meeting.
Both sides agreed to further expand cooperation in environmental protection, forest management, and climate change mitigation, reaffirming their commitment to working together on shared challenges.
