The Country Director of the World Bank, Mr. Jean Pesme, along with a senior management team from the World Bank Bangladesh office, visited the 6.05 MWp rooftop solar project of GPH Ispat Ltd. on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The project, one of the largest rooftop solar installations in Bangladesh’s industrial sector, has been financed by Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL).

 

The visiting delegation was accompanied by Mr. Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL, and Mr. Md. Enamul Karim Pavel, Head of Renewable Energy at IDCOL, along with other senior officials.

 

During the visit, the World Bank Country Director, Mr. Jean Pesme, commended Bangladesh’s efforts in scaling up clean energy solutions and emphasized the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable development.

 

Mr. Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL, highlighted the organization’s continued commitment to expanding renewable energy financing in Bangladesh, particularly in the rooftop solar segment.

 

IDCOL has been at the forefront of renewable energy development in Bangladesh, with a strong track record in financing solar home systems, mini-grids, and utility-scale solar projects. Building on this experience, IDCOL has significantly expanded its focus on rooftop solar projects in recent years.IDCOL has set a target to finance 1,150 MWp of rooftop solar by 2030. To date, IDCOL has financed ~220 MWp, with a pipeline exceeding 200 MWp.

 

The 6.05 MWp rooftop solar project at GPH Ispat Ltd. stands as a testament to the growing momentum of private sector participation in renewable energy. It is expected to generate clean electricity for industrial operations while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

 

The visit underscores the continued collaboration between the World Bank and IDCOL in promoting sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure in Bangladesh.
