The LPG Traders’ Cooperative Association has announced the withdrawal of its previously declared strike aimed at halting LPG supply.

Association President Selim Khan confirmed the decision to Barta24.com on Thursday (January 8).

“We have withdrawn the strike as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has accepted our justified demands,” Selim Khan told Barta24.com.

Earlier, at a press conference held in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday (January 7), the association issued a 24-hour ultimatum, placing six demands, including an increase in commissions and an end to the unilateral price announcements by BERC. The association had warned that failure to meet these demands would lead to an indefinite suspension of LPG supply and marketing from January 8.

At the press conference, Selim Khan said that Bangladesh was going through a severe LPG crisis. He alleged that BERC had announced new prices without holding any discussions with distributors, which had created serious difficulties for both distributors and consumers. He also claimed that no effective measures were being taken to resolve the ongoing crisis.
