The three-day-long 3rd South Asia Just Transition Alliance (SAJTA) Summit 2025 concluded in Khulna on Monday.
On the closing day, the summit recognized four campaigns from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka for defending communities, ecosystems, and climate justice.
The campaigns were run by the Bangladesh Working Group on Ecology and Development (BWGED), the Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ) from Sri Lanka, the Indus Consortium from Pakistan, and the Karbi Anglong Solar Power Project Affected People’s Rights Committee.
"These awardees are not just campaigners; they are defenders of people's rights and the future of the planet." Their movements show that a just transition must be led by communities—not corporations,” said Hasan Mehedi, chief executive of the Coastal Livelihood and Environmental Action Network (CLEAN) during the ceremony.
The SAJTA Summit 2025 reaffirmed the power of collective action and community-led climate solutions.
The SAJTA is a regional civil society platform dedicated to advancing sustainable, community-driven energy solutions and resisting harmful large-scale infrastructure projects that threaten people and nature, said a press release.
