Besides, she categorically said no new permits will be issued for brick kilns to prevent air pollution caused by them.

The Adviser made these remarks at a meeting held at Bangladesh Secretariat where officials from the Department of Environment and leaders of the Bangladesh Brick Manufacturing Owners Association (BBMOA) were present, said a press release.

During the meeting, they discussed different environmental issues focusing on eco-friendly brick production, modernization of kilns, and reducing carbon emissions.

Rizwana expressed deep concern over the environmental impact of brick kilns, saying: "Constructing buildings is not enough if we cannot ensure a livable environment for future generations."

She further added that air pollution is reducing the average life expectancy by 5-7 years.  Hence, no brick kiln will be allowed to operate without a license and environmental clearance, she said.

She emphasized on taking strict action against corruption within the Department of Environment.

BBMOA leaders highlighted the challenges faced by the brick kiln industry and proposed adopting eco-friendly technologies.

They urged government support in encouraging the use of green technology in kilns and submitted a memorandum to the Adviser.

Earlier, Rizwana provided guidance to senior officials during a special meeting at the Ministry to ensure the successful implementation of ongoing projects, the release added.
