Environment, Forest and Climate Change Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan emphasized the need for the government, media, and the public to work collectively to combat air, water, and noise pollution, as well as to address the adverse effects of climate change.
She stated, "The government has taken various steps to protect the environment. However, enforcing laws alone is not enough to control pollution. Public participation is crucial." She also urged journalists to play a more active role in raising public awareness about pollution control.
The environment advisor made these remarks during a discussion with members of the Bangladesh Climate Change Journalists Forum held on Tuesday at the ministry's conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
She further mentioned that tackling the impacts of climate change requires a united effort. While the government is focused on controlling air and noise pollution, she stressed that successful implementation depends on increasing public awareness. "We want people to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles. Every step matters," she added.
Kawsar Rahman, President of the forum, suggested strengthening the negotiation team for climate conferences and forming a permanent negotiator team. He also emphasized stricter enforcement of laws to control pollution.
Forum Secretary-General Motahar Hossain proposed the proper utilization of ministry project funds and called for action to prevent water pollution, air pollution, deforestation, and hill cutting.
The meeting was attended by the ministry’s secretary, additional secretary, joint secretaries, senior officials, and forum members, including President Kawsar Rahman, Secretary-General Motahar Hossain, Joint Secretary-General Masudul Haque, Acting Editor of Somoyer Alo Syed Shahnewaz Karim, Enargy and power Editor Mollha Amzad Hossain, Sangbad Protidin Editor Rimon Mhafuj and Daily Star journalist Baharam Khan.
