Bangladesh Army Welfare Trust will set up solar-based power plants of 1000 megawatt at Sharnadeep near Bhasan char in Noakhali district.

 

The project will be implemented in phases during the next five years.

 

Army Welfare Trust signed a joint venture agreement (JVA) recently with the USA-based Eleris Energy Limited at the Army Welfare Trust headquarters to implement the project.

 

Army Welfare Trust managing director Brig Gen Abul Mansur Md Ashraf Khan and Eleris Energy Limited chief operating officer Jerry Price signed the joint-venture agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.

 

According to Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR), the Army Welfare Trust earlier on August 16, 2021 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install the solar power plants.

 

Under the project, the plants with a total of 200 MW capacity will be installed every year and a total of 1000 MW in five years.

 

According to the Power Division officials, Bangladesh is producing 880MW of electricity from renewable energy sources.

 

The government has a plan to produce minimum 40 percent of the country’s total electricity demand from renewable energy by 2041.
