State-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (BAPEX) has been successful to produce 26 MMCFD (million cubic feet gas per day) from Habiganj-1 gas field, a top official said.

“We have just completed the work-over operation in Habiganj-1 successfully at 3015-3021 meter depth from surface,” said Bapex Managing Director AKM Ruhul Islam Chowdhury said recently.

He said the well was drilled and two gas sands were discovered in 1963. The state-owned Bangladesh Gas Field Company Limited (BGFCL) has been produced 275bcf (billion cubic feet) natural gas from upper sand, according to him.

The well was shut down in December, 2012 due to release of excessive water from it, he informed. Now, the Bapex produces natural gas from lower the sand using its own work over rig Bijoy-11.

“During the drill stem test (DST) operation, we found gas flow of 26.15mmcfd with 2600psi pressure which will contributed substantially to the present gas demand,” the MD said.

AKM Ruhul Islam Chowdhury said that the state-owned BGFCL hired them to complete seven wells at a cost of Tk 193 crore by using Bapex rig.

Now the state-owned Bapex produces 120mmcfd natural gas from Bapex operated gas field against the total production of 2,650-2750 mmcf of natural gas daily.
