Bangladesh and Türkiye have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the power and energy sector, with a focus on affordable and efficient solutions to strengthen Bangladesh’s energy security.

Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Şen met Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at the Bangladesh Secretariat recently. The meeting also focused on opportunities to deepen broader bilateral economic and energy ties.

The Turkish delegation included Bilal Belyurt, Commercial Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Dhaka, and representatives of Karpowership—Jad El Sebaaly, Asli Kilic and Emma Wahlberg.

The discussions covered potential cooperation in securing lower-cost power and fuel solutions, including floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and heavy fuel oil (HFO).

The minister stressed the need to explore affordable and sustainable energy options that could help bring Bangladesh’s idle power generation capacity back into operation and improve overall energy security.

The Turkish side expressed interest in holding detailed discussions with officials of the Ministry at the earliest opportunity to present its proposals and explore possible areas of cooperation.
