Vietnam’s planned investment of $136.3 billion in power generation and transmission through 2030 is creating significant opportunities for global energy technology, equipment and engineering companies, as the country accelerates efforts to strengthen energy security and expand electricity infrastructure.

Under its revised National Power Development Plan VIII, Vietnam expects to invest approximately $118.2 billion in power generation and $18.1 billion in transmission infrastructure by 2030.

The plan also targets total installed generation capacity of 183,291–236,363 MW and commercial electricity output of 500.4–557.8 billion kWh.

Rising electricity demand is driving the investment. According to Vietnam Electricity (EVN), power generation and imports reached 171.54 billion kWh in the first half of 2026, up 9.85% year-on-year, while peak system load hit a record 57,537 MW.
