Bangladesh’s gas supply improved sharply as regasified LNG deliveries from its two floating terminals rose to about 990 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD), pushing total national gas supply to around 2,610 MMCFD.
The LNG supply reached nearly 90% of the combined 1,100-MMCFD capacity of the two terminals—the highest level since July 21, when one FSRU was forced offline following a fire. Imported LNG now accounts for about 34% of total gas supply.
Despite the improvement, the country still faces a gas deficit of more than 1,100 MMCFD against estimated demand of around 3,800 MMCFD. Additional gas has been allocated to power plants and industries, easing pressure on production.
Gas-fired power plants were receiving more than 870 MMCFD, enabling generation of around 5,500 MW, according to officials.
