The number of Bangladeshi nationals killed in a fire at Russia’s Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) has risen to four, following the death of Mahin Uddin of Narsingdi at a Moscow hospital recently.
Mahin died while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the August 25 fire at the complex near Svobodny in Russia’s Far Eastern Amur Oblast, according to Mizanur Rahman, first secretary (labour) at the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow.
The other Bangladeshi victims were Zakir Hossain of Kishoreganj, Md Alal Hossain Raju of Meherpur and Abdul Quddus of Rajbari. The embassy said 36 Bangladeshis were injured in the incident, with one still receiving treatment in serious condition.
The AGCC initially reported seven deaths following the blaze but later said 14 foreign nationals had died. The fire reportedly started in a support section of the complex’s pyrolysis unit, while the main equipment was not damaged.
