German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Rüdiger Lotz has called for a whole-of-society approach to Bangladesh’s long-term low-carbon and climate-resilient development, urging the government, businesses, communities and young people to work together.
He made the remarks at the “University Dialogue on People-led LT-LEDS: Bangladesh’s Low Carbon Future” recently at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
Dr Lotz said Bangladesh’s growing economy would significantly increase energy demand and highlighted the need to reduce vulnerability to external energy shocks. He also noted the growing importance of rooftop solar in the country’s energy transition.
The ambassador stressed that young people must play a central role in shaping Bangladesh’s climate future, with climate education and capacity building beginning at schools and local levels.
He reaffirmed Germany’s support for Bangladesh through financing, technology transfer, capacity building and clean-energy cooperation.
