With two more readymade garments (RMG) factories receiving the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED) certificates, Bangladesh now has a total of 217 green factories.
MT Sweaters Ltd in Gazipur obtained a LEED platinum certificate this month with a score of 82. KC Bottom and Shirt Wear Company in Dhaka’s Uttara also obtained the platinum certificate with a score of 81, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The BGMEA data also showed that among the 217 LEED-certified factories in Bangladesh, 83 are platinum-rated, 120 are gold-rated, 10 are silver-rated, and four are certified factories. Another 550 factories are waiting to get the USGBC’s LEED certification.
Currently, 55 of the world’s top 100 LEED Green Factories are in Bangladesh, including nine of the top 10 and 18 of the top 20. The remarkable achievement is poised to attract additional investment and partnerships, cementing the country’s reputation as a sustainable manufacturing hub.
