Dhaka, 8 October 2026: Bangladesh and Türkiye have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the power and energy sector, with a focus on affordable and efficient solutions to strengthen Bangladesh’s energy security.

 

Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis ?en met Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday. The meeting also focused on opportunities to deepen broader bilateral economic and energy ties.

 

The Turkish delegation included Bilal Belyurt, Commercial Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Dhaka, and representatives of Karpowership—Jad El Sebaaly, Asli Kilic and Emma Wahlberg.

 

The discussions covered potential cooperation in securing lower-cost power and fuel solutions, including floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and heavy fuel oil (HFO). The minister stressed the need to explore affordable and sustainable energy options that could help bring Bangladesh’s idle power generation capacity back into operation and improve overall energy security.

 

The Turkish side expressed interest in holding detailed discussions with officials of the Ministry at the earliest opportunity to present its proposals and explore possible areas of cooperation.

 

Minister Mahmood welcomed the proposal and agreed to further discussions to assess its feasibility and potential contribution to Bangladesh’s energy needs.

 

The minister also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to expanding regional energy cooperation and welcomed continued engagement with Türkiye on mutually beneficial opportunities.

 

The Turkish ambassador conveyed his country’s interest in strengthening relations with Bangladesh in areas of mutual interest, including energy. Senior officials of the Ministry were also present at the meeting.
