The Bangladesh Geological Society (BGS) Executive Committee for the term 2025–2026 assumed office on February 8, 2025. The inauguration ceremony took place at the University of Dhaka, where the new committee, led by President Dr. Badrul Imam and General Secretary Dr. Anwar Zahid, officially took charge. The event was attended by renowned geologists from the country, professionals from various sectors, and academics. Discussions focused on Bangladesh’s geological research and its future directions.
As the chief guest, Advisor Minister of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, emphasized the government’s commitment to geological research and development. He highlighted the importance of the Bangladesh Geological Society in shaping policies related to mineral resources and sustainable land management. He said, "Professionals are not being utilized properly in Bangladesh. Their knowledge and experience should be utilized with due dignity for the development of the country." He Also Said “Petrobangla should lead by the geologist”.
The Bangladesh Geological Society, since its establishment in 1979, had played a crucial role in geological research, policy recommendations, academic advancements, and national development initiatives. The organization had been instrumental in shaping policies on geological education, research, mineral exploration, and the application of earth sciences and technology.
Through its institutional platform, the Bangladesh Geological Society contributed to the sustainable development of the country’s geological resources. The society was actively engaged in mineral resource management, environmental protection, and technological advancements in the geoscience sector.
During the inaugural ceremony, discussions were held on Bangladesh’s geological landscape, earthquakes, natural resources, and exploration techniques. Experts shared insights on modern research methodologies, challenges in the field, and the latest technological applications.
The Bangladesh Geological Society expressed optimism that the newly formed committee would introduce innovative initiatives in geological research and contribute significantly to the country’s geoscience development. The newly appointed leaders assured their commitment to scientific progress and sustainable resource management.
