COP29 represents a key opportunity to achieve a fair energy transition and meet the primary needs of developing countries' residents, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima told Report.

She noted that she believes in achieving progress within COP29 in addressing issues affecting the least developed countries.

"Climate financing is the most important priority. One of the conference's main goals is providing $100 billion per year in climate aid to countries in need. In Baku, we expect to achieve a new goal for climate financing. Additionally, we support reforms in climate financing architecture. Achieving this is important both for the current situation and for the future," emphasized Fatima.

The UN under-secretary-general added that another important issue expected to see progress during COP29 is the launch of the International Loss and Damage Fund.

"Especially after reaching consensus at COP28, the full functioning of the International Loss and Damage Fund is our priority, and we expect further progress in this direction in Baku. This fund is crucial for timely assistance to countries most affected by climate losses, strengthening global solidarity and climate justice. We are conducting joint activities with the Azerbaijani government to support COP29 initiatives. We will work to achieve successful results at COP29, making efforts for a fair, inclusive, and ambitious climate agenda," concluded Rabab Fatima.
