April 22, 2024 - World Energy Experts today emphasized for taking proper initiatives for ensuring sustainable energy transition instead of fossil fuel in collaboration of government and community partnership aimed at overcoming climate vulnerability.

They said this while addressing the Opening Plenary: Closing the Momentum Gap of the 26th Congress Rotterdam at Ahoy here.

World Energy Council organized the 26th World Energy Congress to turn for leadership on clean and inclusive energy transitions worldwide with an opportunity to spring forward in redesigning energy for people and planet.

The World Energy Council experts said energy transition is needed to all for better future, as developed countries already introduced renewable sources instead of fossil fuel to avoid climate change impact.

John Defterios, markets editor, CNN, moderated the opening plenary session, while Chantal Zeegers, vice mayor for climate building and housing, city of Rotterdam, Dr Angela Wilkinson, secretary general and CEO, World Energy Council, Ged Davis, Executive Chair, World Energy Scenarios, World Energy Council, Monique Motty, Future Energy Leader/Founder, Eco Solutions Consulting, Congo, James Ferguson Skea, chair, intergovernmental panel on climate change and Vaclav Smil, distinguished professor emeritus, faculty of environment, university of Manitoba, Canada delivered their valuable and time befitting speeches.

They said energy transition should be introduced across the world for inclusive development, as a large number of population is behind the electricity due to many barriers.

Monique Motty said, "Government and community would have to work together for energy transition. Every stakeholder should be included in the process."

Vice Mayor Chantal Zeegers said that Rotterdam has already launched energy transition, adding, "We hope that in future energy transition process will be followed other countries."

Highlighting energy demand and its usage globally, Professor Emeritus Vaclav Smil said energy demand is changing entire world due to multi usage of energy.

He said that energy transition will help the planet to reduce carbon emission.

“Against a backdrop of new energy insecurity concerns and the increasing damages that climate change is inflicting on the Earth’s natural life support system, it is neither easy nor enough to translate net zero roadmaps into reality. It is important to develop a shared and deeper understanding of the role of increasingly diverse energy systems in enabling a safe operating space for humanity. It is urgent to involve more people and communities and identify leading practices in inclusive implementation. The best way forward is to support diverse regions in leading with and learning from each other and appreciate the diversity of place-based, clean and just energy transitions," said Dr Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General and CEO, World Energy Council.

Over 7000 international energy stakeholders, 250 speakers, 70 ministers, 100 exhibitors, 60 sessions, 1200 media representatives from 150 countries joined the world energy congress.

The World Energy Congress has convened the cooperative power of the world energy community to turn inspiration into action. It is the world’s longest established energy event, informed by the World Energy Council’s unique position as the impartial and pragmatic voice of the global energy agenda and our remarkable 100-year-old heritage.

The Netherlands shared the Council’s vision to humanize energy and forge new ways forward on global energy transitions, forging an unparalleled legacy that will continue to drive the energy conversation for the next 100 years.

Uniting a global community of energy leaders and visionaries in the City of Rotterdam affirms the country’s commitment to investing in knowledge, technology and infrastructure, and the transition towards a green economy.
