Power generation at the Rampal power plant in Bagerhat was suspended at 6:30 am on Sunday following a technical glitch.
Managing Director of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) Engr. Sayeed Akram Ullah confirmed the shutdown of the plant. Report UNB
He said the company has taken measures to resume production at the plant as soon as possible.
A senior official of the plant said that the plant has two units, each having 660 MW capacity, and both remained inoperative following the fault. "It may take two or three days to repair the fault," he told UNB.
Rampal power plant experienced force outages several times for different reasons after its first unit starts production last year.
Recently, the commercial operation was formally launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
Earlier on April 15 this year the production at Rampal thermal power plant was halted due to mechanical failure.
The Rampal Thermal Power Plant has been shut down six times in seven and a half months since it was commissioned on December 17 last year.
The power plant was first shut down on January 14, followed by April 15, April 23, June 30, July 16, and July 30.
