DHAKA, Nov 15, 2023 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin today said as part of addressing the challenges of climate change, a list is being prepared calculating the potential losses of Bangladesh due to climate change.

 

"Our main objective is to engage various stakeholders through public-private partnerships and international support in the upcoming COP-28 conference. This will result in a multi-sectoral and pragmatic approach that will provide solutions to the challenges of climate change in Bangladesh," he said.

 

 The environment minister was addressing a discussion titled 'The Road to Dubai: Expert Consultation on Thematic Programs of COP-28' at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon here.

 

Speaking as the chief guest, Shahab Uddin said the thematic issues of COP-28 namely climate, adaptation, finance, food security, agriculture, water, natural resources, energy, industrialisation, urbanisation, health, women and youth, education, skill development, business, transport, multidimensional responsibility and Bangladesh's preparedness needs to be precisely identified by discussing relevant issues regarding capacity building.

 

As a result, he said, it will play an effective role in protecting the interests of Bangladesh in the upcoming COP-28 global negotiations.

 

Chaired by eminent economist Dr Qazi Kholiiquzzaman Ahmad, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Resident Representative of UNDP Stefan Liler, renowned water expert and Professor Emeritus Dr Ainun Nishat and chairman of Prokriti o Jibon Foundation Muqeed Majumdar Babu.

 

Executive Director of Nature Conservation Management Dr SM Munjurul Hannan Khan presented a keynote paper.
