9th November 2019

DHAKA, Nov 9, 2019 (BSS) – A two-day International Conference on ‘Energy Efficiency Conservation Awareness (EECA)’ will be held on November 11-13 aimed at raising awareness among energy subscribers across the country.

Global energy experts will attend the conference, member of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) Siddique Zobair said.

Addressing a press briefing at a city hotel, he said the SREDA is set to hold the two-day international conference with the assistance of Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH at Sonargaon Hotel.

“Eight nations including the host Bangladesh will join the conference and discussion will be held in four sessions — National Energy Efficiency Awareness Campaign: Paradigm Shift in Awareness Raising at National Level, Digital Innovation in Energy Efficiency Promotion, EE Implementation in Industrial Sector and Market Development for Energy Technologies: Role of Private Sector,” he said.

Zobair said the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Master Plan up to 2030 outlines Bangladesh’s target to achieve 20 percent reduction of primary energy consumption of per GDP by 2030, compared to 2013 level.

“A robust policy, appropriate strategies, awareness, capacity of stakeholders and well-functioning institutional framework are preconditions for achieving these goals,” he said.

Around 47.8 percent energy, he said, is used in the industrial sector. If carefully used, then 30 percent more energy efficiency could be attained from here and the Energy Efficiency (EE) means high competitiveness; it means producing more with less energy.

The SREDA member said state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid will inaugurate the conference as the chief guest on November 11.
