The government is likely to amend the 23-years old private sector power generation policy which may include the transmission and distribution regulations in the policy framework.
Besides, the policy may also reduce some financial facilities on power generation in private sector which are now contributing around 55 percent of the country’s 20,775MW power generation capacity.
On the other hands, under the new policy the government will not require to issue any special SRO for construction of mega power plants through foreign companies.
The proposed amendment will help address the issue of foreign investment too, official sources said.
Recently, the ministry of finance has requested the power division for amendment of private sector power generation policy, 1996 with mandatory insurance policy for local companies.
